A senior White House adviser has expressed Washington’s strong appreciation for Algeria’s ‘vital and continuous’ diplomatic efforts aimed at reinforcing peace and security across the region.
Speaking exclusively to dzwatch following a high-level meeting with Algeria’s Ambassador to the United States, Sabri Boukadoum, and US Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Mark Shapiro, adviser Massad Boulos stated that Algeria’s constructive engagement is key to reaching an all-party acceptable solution to the Western Sahara conflict, in line with UN Security Council Resolution 2797.
Boulos added that ‘the time has come to resolve this conflict,’ which has lasted nearly 50 years — ignited by Morocco’s illegal occupation of Western Saharan territories following the withdrawal of the former colonial power.
The US official confirmed that discussions covered the recent visit by the US Deputy Secretary of State and AFRICOM Commander General Anderson to Algiers, describing it as a ‘successful visit’ that reflected an advanced level of coordination between the two nations.
