President of the Pan-African Parliament, Fatiha Bouttebig, on Sunday led a major intellectual symposium organized to mark Africa Day, themed ‘Africa Remembers Its Liberation Movement Icons’.
Speaking exclusively to dzwatch, Bouttebig outlined a sweeping reform vision for the Pan-African Parliament, centered on energizing its political role, building communication bridges, and confronting challenges threatening the continent’s unity and sovereignty.
Bouttebig stressed that the Bureau is committed to ensuring proper implementation of all governing statutes, identifying development, institutional communication, and continental visibility as priority areas requiring urgent attention.
“We are working to reform what must be reformed, leveraging Algeria’s immense weight and standing across Africa to achieve this goal,” she told dzwatch.
The symposium drew diplomats, parliamentarians, academics, and journalists, focusing on Africa’s liberation history and Algeria’s pioneering role in supporting independence movements continent-wide.
Bouttebig also reaffirmed that Algeria’s election to lead the Pan-African Parliament was fully deserved, noting that Moroccan regime interference attempted to undermine the electoral process — but ultimately failed, reflecting President Tebboune’s successful active diplomacy across Africa.
