Foreign Affairs Minister Ahmed Attaf on Sunday reaffirmed Algeria’s unwavering commitment, under President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to strengthening pan-African cooperation, declaring Africa a “continent of promising futures.”
Speaking exclusively to dzwatch at a ceremony marking World Africa Day, Attaf highlighted Algeria’s expanding diplomatic footprint across the continent, noting that Algerian embassies in Africa have grown from 29 to 38 missions, with Air Algérie now serving 12 African destinations — expected to reach 20 soon.
Algeria has also raised its annual scholarship quota for African youth from 5,000 to 8,000 grants covering higher education and vocational training.
On the Western Sahara, Attaf told dzwatch that recent developments vindicate Algeria’s decades-long position, welcoming the new UN-US supervised direct negotiations between Morocco and the Polisario Front, calling for a just and permanent solution guaranteeing the Saharawi people’s right to self-determination.
Attaf also condemned Israeli occupation crimes in Gaza and the West Bank, warning they aim to eliminate any prospect of a Palestinian state.
On Sudan, Mali, Libya, and Somalia, he called for dialogue, political solutions, and an end to all foreign interference.
