Minister of Startups Participates in UN Forum on Technology and Innovation

Yassine Walid, Minister of Knowledge Economy, Startups, and Small Enterprises, participated today, Monday, at the invitation of Rebecca Greenspan, President of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), in the proceedings of the 27th session of the United Nations Commission on Science and Technology for Development, held in Geneva, Switzerland.

Yassine Walid delivered a speech at the ministerial meeting organized on the sidelines of this forum, in which he presented Algeria’s multifaceted efforts to support innovation and technology in Algeria and Africa. He also highlighted various government policies supporting entrepreneurship and talent. The ministerial meeting focused on the role of science, technology, and innovation in promoting the 2030 agenda and combating poverty in times of multiple crises.

The forum serves as a space for strategic planning, experience sharing, and predicting critical trends in the fields of science, technology, and innovation in key sectors of the economy, environment, and society. It aims to draw attention to emerging technologies. This year, the forum will address two main themes: “Data for Development” and “Global Cooperation in Science, Technology, and Innovation for Development.”

Furthermore, on the sidelines of the forum, the United Nations Commission on Science and Technology for Development will evaluate progress in implementing and monitoring the outcomes of the “World Summit on the Information Society” at regional and international levels. It will also listen to presentations on government policies supporting science, technology, and innovation.
