Minister of Religious Affairs and Endowments, Youcef Belmahdi, who also heads the Algerian Hajj Mission office, stated on Saturday that Algerian pilgrims served as outstanding ambassadors for their country during the Hajj 2026 season. Belmahdi, speaking to the Algerian Hajj mission's media delegation, noted that the pilgrimage concluded under secure and well-organized conditions. He commended the strong sense of solidarity among pilgrims, characterized by mutual support and assistance. He described the Hajj journey as a spiritual school, imparting values and ethics that positively influence families, communities, and the nation upon return.
Regarding the pilgrims' health, Belmahdi reported a generally reassuring situation. A small number of cases are being monitored by Algerian medical teams in coordination with Saudi hospitals. The mission is ensuring the well-being of patients and facilitating their return to Algeria on early flights once medically cleared, with all necessary arrangements made for their safe transit home.
The Algerian Hajj mission is now in its third phase, involving the transfer of pilgrims who arrived directly in Mecca via Jeddah to Medina, followed by their return flights to Algeria. Preparations are underway for departures via Jeddah starting Sunday, with return journeys continuing until June 21.
Mission teams continue their work in accommodation, catering, healthcare, and religious guidance, particularly for pilgrims needing to complete rituals or religious rulings. Belmahdi also recognized the media's significant role in conveying an accurate and positive portrayal of the Hajj season, deeming it a powerful soft force that effectively highlights efforts and communicates facts.
Preparations for the upcoming Hajj season will commence early according to a structured plan. Belmahdi acknowledged the Algerian state's substantial support for pilgrims, led by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. This support includes easing financial burdens, expanding departure airports, providing transportation for pilgrims from remote areas, and ensuring comprehensive health, accommodation, and administrative services.
