Algeria’s ANIE Clarifies Candidate Replacement Procedures for July 2nd Elections

The National Independent Elections Authority (ANIE) has issued an important reminder regarding the legislative elections scheduled for July 2nd. ANIE is directing candidate lists that have had one or more applicants rejected to submit a replacement application dossier immediately upon notification of the rejection. This procedure is crucial for ensuring timely examination and processing within legal deadlines.

The authority clarified that this process takes into account the situation of the rejected candidate when an appeal is filed within the legal three-day period from the notification of the rejection decision. ANIE explained that if the appellate administrative court rules in favor of the initially rejected candidate, they will be reinstated to the candidate list, rendering the replacement application null and void. Conversely, if the administrative jurisdiction upholds the rejection decision, the candidate will be officially replaced by the substitute applicant, provided their dossier has been validated.

ANIE further emphasized that the submission of replacement candidacies can continue up to 25 days prior to the election date. Consequently, the final deadline for submitting a substitute candidacy has been set for June 6, 2026.
