Algeria’s ANIE Clarifies Candidate Replacement Procedures for Legislative Elections

The National Independent Elections Authority (ANIE) has issued an important reminder concerning the legislative elections scheduled for July 2nd. Candidates whose applications have been rejected, either fully or partially, are reminded of the procedure for submitting replacement candidacies. The ANIE stressed that upon notification of a rejection decision, concerned candidate lists must submit a replacement application dossier to ensure timely examination and processing within legal deadlines.

This process accounts for the status of the rejected candidate should an appeal be filed within the legal three-day period following the notification of the rejection. If the appellate administrative court rules in favor of the initially rejected candidate, they will be reinstated on the candidate list, rendering the replacement candidacy null and void. Conversely, if the administrative court upholds the rejection decision, the rejected candidate will be officially replaced by the substitute applicant, provided their dossier has been validated.

The ANIE further highlighted that the submission of replacement candidacies can continue up to 25 days prior to the election date. Consequently, the final deadline for submitting a substitute candidacy has been set for June 6, 2026.
