President Tebboune Offers Condolences After Deadly Fire at Algiers Childcare Centre

Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune issued a message of condolence following the death of 11 people in a fire that broke out at a childcare reception centre in Mohammadia, Algiers.

In his message, President Tebboune said he had received with deep sorrow and acceptance of God’s will the news of the deaths of children and the injuries sustained by others in the tragic blaze.

The President noted that the tragedy occurred shortly after Algeria marked National Children’s Day, making the loss even more painful for the country and its people.

He expressed his sincere condolences to the families of the victims and prayed for those who lost their lives to be granted mercy. He also wished the injured a rapid and complete recovery.

President Tebboune concluded his message with words of faith and remembrance, expressing submission to God’s decree and solidarity with everyone affected by the tragedy.

The fire broke out early Thursday at an institution dedicated to receiving and caring for assisted children in the Mohammadia district of the capital. The incident resulted in 11 deaths and several injuries, prompting an extensive emergency response by Civil Protection teams, health services and other public authorities.

The injured were transferred to specialised hospitals, where medical and paramedical teams were mobilised to provide urgent treatment and continuous care. Government officials also visited the health facilities receiving the victims to review their medical condition and assess the arrangements made for their treatment.

The tragedy has caused widespread grief across Algeria, particularly because it involved children living under institutional care. Messages of sympathy and solidarity have been shared with the victims’ families, the injured and the staff of the institution.

Authorities continue to monitor the condition of those receiving treatment and to follow the measures taken after the fire during this period of national mourning.
