President Tebboune Welcomes Constructive Political Opposition in Algeria

Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune reaffirmed his support for constructive political opposition during a meeting with members of the Algerian community in Germany.

Speaking to Algerians living in the country, President Tebboune said every citizen has the right to criticise public policies and express different political views, provided that this is done respectfully and without insults or offensive language.

“Every Algerian has the right to criticise, but this must be done with respect, while taking into account our traditions and values, without insults or verbal abuse,” the President said during the meeting.

He repeated his position before the community in Berlin, declaring that political opponents who respect national principles and engage peacefully in public debate are welcome in Algeria.

“I say it again before you here in Berlin: opposition figures are welcome in Algeria,” Tebboune stated.

The President stressed that constructive criticism can play an important role in the country’s development, particularly when it is accompanied by realistic alternatives and practical proposals.

According to Tebboune, presenting solutions instead of simply rejecting government policies can help Algeria move forward and strengthen the national political process.

He added that open debate and responsible political participation can enrich the country’s development path by encouraging the exchange of ideas and improving decision-making.

The remarks highlighted the President’s view that political differences should be expressed through dialogue, mutual respect and proposals that serve the public interest.

His comments came during his official visit to Germany, where he met members of the Algerian diaspora and discussed several national issues.

Meetings with Algerians abroad are regularly used to address their concerns, review the country’s political and economic developments, and strengthen ties between the diaspora and national institutions.

Tebboune’s statement also underlined the distinction between legitimate criticism and personal attacks, presenting respectful opposition as a positive force that can contribute to Algeria’s progress, political stability and national unity.
