Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni Expresses Solidarity with Algeria Following Tragic Fire

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni extended her deepest condolences on Friday to the victims of the tragic fire that broke out at the assisted childhood institution in Mohammadia, Algiers.

In a message shared through her official social media account, Meloni expressed Italy’s full solidarity with the Algerian people and with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune during this painful moment.

“On my own behalf and on behalf of the Italian government, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the victims of the tragic fire that broke out at the assisted childhood institution in Algiers. We offer our sincere sympathy to the families of the victims and to those who were injured,” the Italian Prime Minister wrote.

Meloni added that Italy stands alongside Algeria and its leadership, stressing: “Italy stands in solidarity with the Algerian people and with the President of the Republic, Mr Abdelmadjid Tebboune, in this difficult and painful circumstance.”

The message reflects the strength of the relations between Algeria and Italy, two Mediterranean countries that have developed a close strategic partnership based on mutual respect, political dialogue and cooperation in several key sectors.

Italy’s rapid expression of support also highlights the international sympathy generated by the tragedy and the importance of Algeria’s diplomatic relations with its European partners. The statement confirms that Algeria can rely on the solidarity of friendly countries during moments of national grief.

The Algerian government, under the leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, has responded to the incident with seriousness and a strong sense of responsibility. State institutions, medical teams and Civil Protection services were mobilised to care for the injured, assist the affected families and manage the consequences of the fire.

President Tebboune’s direct attention to the victims and survivors further demonstrated the state’s commitment to protecting vulnerable citizens and ensuring that they receive the necessary medical, psychological and social support.

Meloni’s condolences therefore carry both a humanitarian and diplomatic significance. They reinforce the bonds of friendship between Algeria and Italy while sending a clear message of compassion to the families affected by the tragedy.

As Algeria mourns the victims, messages of solidarity from international partners continue to underline the respect enjoyed by the country and its leadership on the regional and international stage.
