Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf, called on Sunday for maintaining and increasing international pressure to end the Zionist crimes in Gaza. Speaking at an Arab-European ministerial meeting on the Palestinian issue in Brussels, Attaf emphasized that the momentum resulting from certain countries recognizing the State of Palestine and the progress made towards securing full membership for Palestine in the United Nations, as well as recent commitments endorsed by international judicial bodies regarding the Palestinian people in Gaza, is not an end in itself.

Attaf highlighted that these political, diplomatic, and judicial efforts aim to pressure the occupying power to stop committing three critical miscalculations.

Firstly, Attaf pointed out the misconception that the occupying power can indefinitely challenge the international community and its stance on the need for a just solution to the Middle East conflict.

The second error, according to Attaf, is the belief that the occupying power can unilaterally dictate the terms of conflict resolution to the international community. He stressed that the conflict will eventually be resolved in compliance with international legitimacy, regardless of how long it takes.

The third miscalculation of the Zionist entity, Attaf noted, is the pursuit of an elusive lasting peace in the Middle East without the establishment of a Palestinian state. He asserted that the creation of a Palestinian state remains a fundamental condition for achieving a just and lasting peace in the region.

Regarding the recent resolution adopted by the UN General Assembly on Palestine’s membership in the United Nations, Attaf confirmed that Algeria, in collaboration with concerned countries, would seek to revisit this issue at the Security Council level.
