Interior Minister Oversees Graduation of 88 Merchant Navy and Port Officers

Minister of the Interior, Local Authorities and Transport Said Sayoud supervised on Monday the graduation ceremony of the 51st class of merchant navy and port officers at the National Higher School of Maritime Sciences, the Martyr M’hamed Bougara School, in Bou Ismail.

Speaking at the ceremony, Sayoud highlighted the school’s position as a leading national institution dedicated to training skilled maritime professionals. He said its graduates are prepared to keep pace with the rapid changes affecting maritime transport and port services while contributing to the competitiveness of Algeria’s economy.

The minister explained that Algeria’s promising maritime ambitions are guided by the strategic vision of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, who places major importance on improving training and higher education. He stressed that developing national expertise, promoting knowledge and mastering modern technologies are essential to strengthening national sovereignty and achieving sustainable economic development.

Sayoud also described maritime transport and ports as strategic pillars of the national economy. He noted that the state has launched ambitious structural reforms aimed at modernizing ports, developing the national maritime fleet and improving logistics services. These reforms are expected to support Algeria’s integration into global supply chains and increase its competitiveness.

The graduating class included 88 officers. Among them, 58 received master’s degrees in navigation sciences and marine mechanics, while 30 graduated as port officers.

The minister congratulated the graduates and encouraged them to demonstrate responsibility, discipline and respect for professional ethics. He also urged them to continue developing their knowledge, particularly in digital technology and artificial intelligence, so they can perform their duties effectively and represent Algeria with distinction.

Sayoud praised the school’s academic, administrative and technical staff, as well as the graduates’ families.

The ceremony concluded with the honoring of the top students in recognition of their academic excellence and contribution to Algeria’s development.
