Algeria Pledges Full Compensation for Families Affected by Wildfires
Algeria’s Minister of the Interior and Transport, Saïd Sayoud, confirmed on Thursday night in Sétif that compensation for people affected by the recent wildfires will cover all recorded losses, including damage to agricultural crops, homes, furniture and other property.
Speaking to the press after offering condolences to the families of wildfire victims Larbi Nesraqi and Mouqat Mohand Oulhadj in the village of Tichi, in the municipality of Beni Mouhli, Sayoud said President Abdelmadjid Tebboune had instructed governors across the affected provinces to begin a comprehensive assessment of all damage caused by the fires.
The minister, accompanied by Health Minister Mohamed Seddik Aït Messaoudène, Minister of National Solidarity, Family and Women’s Affairs Soraya Mouloudji, and Civil Protection Director General Colonel Boualem Boughlaf, reiterated that compensation for affected families would be provided before the start of the new social and school year.
Sayoud stressed that the Algerian state remains fully committed to supporting victims both materially and morally during this difficult period.
He also praised the efforts of local authorities, Civil Protection teams, community organizations and volunteers, highlighting the continued coordination with governors until all wildfire hotspots are completely extinguished.
During the visit, the ministerial delegation also launched a humanitarian and medical solidarity convoy carrying clothing, blankets, food parcels, wheelchairs and blood-pressure monitors for affected families.
The visit concluded with Sayoud listening to the concerns of residents of Beni Mouhli and reaffirming the authorities’ commitment to addressing them within available resources.
