Iraq Voices Solidarity with Algeria After Deadly Wildfires

Iraq has expressed its full solidarity with Algeria in the wake of the devastating wildfires that have swept through several northern provinces, claiming lives and injuring many others.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs conveyed “deepest condolences and sincere sympathy to the government and people of the sisterly People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria,” extending heartfelt words to the families of the victims and wishing a swift recovery for the injured.

Baghdad emphasized that it “stands firmly beside Algeria in this painful circumstance,” expressing confidence in Algerian state institutions to overcome the impact of the disaster, curb its repercussions and restore normal life in the affected areas.

The statement acknowledged the tragic human toll and material losses caused by the blazes, which erupted amid soaring summer temperatures and strong winds. Iraqi officials voiced hope that Algeria’s ongoing emergency response—coordinated by Civil Protection units, the People’s National Army and local authorities—will swiftly bring all fire outbreaks under control.

Beyond immediate condolences, Iraq reiterated its broader support for Algeria, highlighting the two nations’ historical bonds and shared aspirations for stability, security and peace across the Arab world. It also commended the spirit of solidarity already shown within Algeria, where citizens, businesses and civil-society groups have rallied to assist those affected.

As investigations continue into the causes of the fires—some suspected to be criminal, others linked to natural factors—Algeria has vowed to compensate victims quickly and strengthen preventive measures. Iraq voiced confidence that these efforts will help the country emerge stronger from the ordeal.
