Algeria’s New Parliament to Hold Membership Session on July 28

Newly elected members of Algeria’s National People’s Assembly (APN) have begun receiving official text messages notifying them that the parliamentary membership validation session will take place on July 28 at 10:00 a.m., marking the formal start of the legislature elected on July 2.

According to the notification, deputies representing the country’s 69 electoral constituencies will be welcomed at the parliament headquarters on July 26 and 27 to complete registration procedures and submit the required administrative documents ahead of the inaugural sitting.

The opening session will officially validate the membership of the newly elected lawmakers before they begin their parliamentary duties. Once the validation process is completed, deputies will proceed to elect the Speaker of the National People’s Assembly, a position that ranks as the third highest office in the Algerian state according to the country’s protocol.

The following two days will be devoted to establishing the Assembly’s internal leadership structure. Deputies will elect the Assembly’s vice-presidents, the chairs and vice-chairs of the permanent parliamentary committees, as well as committee rapporteurs.

At the same time, the parliamentary blocs that will shape the Assembly during the 2026–2031 legislative term are expected to finalize their internal organization by selecting their respective leaders. Depending on each political party’s internal rules, these appointments will be made either through elections or direct nomination.

The three-day agenda will officially launch the tenth legislative term and lay the institutional foundations for the new parliament before it begins examining legislation and overseeing government action.
