Algeria Civil Protection Contains Major Wildfires in Boumerdes and Skikda

Algerian Civil Protection teams succeeded overnight in bringing two major wildfires under control in the provinces of Boumerdes and Skikda, while continuing extensive firefighting operations across several regions of the country.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Algerian Civil Protection service, emergency teams dealt with a total of 80 fires involving forests, scrubland, agricultural crops, brush areas, and palm groves during the previous 24 hours and up to 7:00 a.m.

Of these incidents, 72 fires were completely extinguished, while operations remained ongoing at eight other locations in the provinces of Souk Ahras, Skikda, El Tarf, Saida, Bejaia, Jijel, Tizi Ouzou, and Boumerdes.

One of the most serious fires was reported in the municipality of Kanoua, in Skikda Province. The blaze expanded during the night and approached residential areas, creating a potential threat to nearby homes. As a precautionary measure, several families were evacuated from the affected zone.

Civil Protection authorities deployed significant resources to contain the fire, including 37 firefighting trucks, one BE-200 water-bombing aircraft, and two AT-802 firefighting planes.

Meanwhile, emergency crews also managed to contain another major wildfire in the municipality of Naciria, in Boumerdes Province.

The latest operations highlight the scale of the wildfire response underway in Algeria during the current summer season, with ground teams and aerial firefighting units working continuously to protect residents, agricultural land, and forest areas.

Civil Protection services continue to monitor the remaining active fires and maintain firefighting operations in affected provinces until the situation is fully brought under control.
