Algeria’s National Assembly Prepares for Opening of Tenth Legislative Term

The provisional bureau of Algeria’s National People’s Assembly held a meeting on Sunday to prepare for the opening of the country’s tenth legislative term following the latest parliamentary elections.

According to a statement issued by the National People’s Assembly, the meeting was chaired by the oldest elected candidate, in accordance with parliamentary procedures, with the assistance of the two youngest successful candidates.

Representatives of political parties were also present, along with representatives of independent candidates who won seats in the recent legislative elections and who meet the legal requirements for forming parliamentary groups.

The meeting focused primarily on finalizing the agenda for the opening session of the tenth legislative term. This session will mark the official launch of the new parliamentary cycle and the beginning of the institutional procedures required for the newly elected Assembly to start its work.

Participants also discussed the procedures for establishing the committee responsible for verifying the credentials and membership of elected deputies. This committee plays an important role in confirming the validity of parliamentary mandates and ensuring that the composition of the Assembly complies with the applicable legal and procedural framework.

The formation of parliamentary groups is also expected to shape the internal organization of the National People’s Assembly, particularly with regard to representation, committee participation, and the coordination of legislative activities.

The meeting therefore represents an important preparatory stage ahead of the formal opening of the new legislature.

Through these initial procedures, the National People’s Assembly is laying the institutional foundations for the tenth legislative term, which will include the installation of its structures, the validation of members, and the organization of parliamentary work in accordance with the country’s constitutional and legal provisions.
