Algeria Inaugurates New National Cinema Center Headquarters in Algiers

Algeria’s Minister of Culture and Arts, Malika Bendouda, inaugurated the new headquarters of the National Cinema Center, known as the CNC, in the municipality of Hydra, Algiers.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Culture and Arts, the inauguration forms part of broader efforts to modernize public administration and improve services provided to professionals working in the film industry.

The new headquarters introduces a one-stop service desk designed to bring together several administrative procedures related to cinematographic activities in a single location. The measure is intended to simplify administrative processes, accelerate the handling of applications, and improve the overall quality of public services offered to filmmakers, producers, and other industry professionals.

The one-stop desk will process applications for cinema distribution permits and cultural visas, requests for public financial support for the film industry, as well as permits related to various cinematographic activities.

The facility was named after the late Algerian filmmaker Lamine Merbah, who passed away recently. The decision was taken as a tribute to his distinguished artistic career and contribution to Algerian cinema.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by a number of artists, filmmakers, producers, and professionals active in the national cinema sector.

During the event, Bendouda exchanged views with participants and listened to their concerns, expectations, and proposals. She stressed that the development of Algeria’s film industry requires collective responsibility and stronger cooperation among all stakeholders.

The minister also announced plans to organize a consultative meeting with members of the cinema community in the near future. The meeting is expected to provide a platform for dialogue, professional proposals, and discussion of sector-related challenges, while promoting a more participatory approach to shaping the future of Algerian cinema.
