Touiri Brothers Secure Double Gold, Bronze in Taranto Weightlifting

Algerian weightlifters Aymen Touiri and Farès Touiri have secured gold medals at the Mediterranean Games in Taranto, Italy, adding to the nation's growing success at the competition. Aymen Touiri clinched a gold medal in the 110 kg clean and jerk event, where he lifted 109 kg in his top attempt to claim the lead. This victory marked Algeria's second gold in weightlifting at the games.

Earlier, Farès Touiri earned his own gold medal in the 95 kg clean and jerk event, successfully lifting 169 kg. Demonstrating further strength, Farès Touiri also secured a bronze medal in the 95 kg snatch event, achieving a lift of 195 kg. His bronze medal was won less than an hour after his gold performance, highlighting a strong day for the athlete.

These remarkable performances by the Touiri brothers have substantially increased Algeria's provisional medal tally at the Mediterranean Games. With one day remaining in the competition, Algeria's cumulative count stands at 32 medals, comprising 8 gold, 7 silver, and 17 bronze, placing the nation provisionally in ninth position overall.
