Eight Terrorist Supporters Arrested by ANP Operations
The People's National Army (ANP) successfully apprehended eight individuals identified as supporters of terrorist groups during a series of operations carried out across the national territory. These arrests occurred between August 26 and September 1, 2026, according to an operational report from the ANP. This action highlights the ongoing commitment of Algerian security forces in their counter-terrorism efforts.
The ANP's efforts extend beyond direct counter-terrorism, forming part of a broader strategy against multi-faceted organized crime. During the same reported period, various detachments demonstrated high professionalism, vigilance, and readiness. In the fight against terrorism, ANP detachments, in coordination with Customs services, recovered a heavy machine gun, seven Kalashnikov-type submachine guns, ammunition, and other items in the Bordj Badji Mokhtar operational sector, near the southern border. Furthermore, combined ANP detachments, working with different security services, intercepted 42 drug traffickers and thwarted attempts to introduce 2 quintals and 13 kilograms of processed kif. Operations across military regions also resulted in the seizure of 2.16 kilograms of cocaine and 50,765 psychotropic tablets.
The comprehensive security operations also targeted illegal gold panning and irregular migration. In areas such as Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, In Salah, and In Guezzam, ANP detachments arrested 353 individuals and seized 28 vehicles, 302 generators, 180 jackhammers, along with quantities of raw gold mixture, stones, and equipment used in illicit gold panning. Separately, eight other individuals were apprehended, and two Kalashnikov-type submachine guns, eight hunting rifles, 8,129 liters of fuel, and 32 quintals of tobacco were seized in distinct operations. Additionally, the Coast Guard successfully foiled attempts at clandestine emigration along the national coasts, rescuing 210 individuals and apprehending 388 irregular immigrants of various nationalities throughout the national territory.
