KBR Explores Enhanced Energy Partnership with Algeria
Algerian Minister of Energy Mohamed Arkab recently held discussions with a delegation from the American company KBR at the ministry's headquarters. The meeting, which included KBR Vice President of Business Development Alb Tugay Korum and Head of Sustainable Technology Solutions Jay Ibrahim, focused on exploring avenues to strengthen cooperation and partnership in the hydrocarbons sector. Noureddine Daoudi, CEO of Sonatrach, also attended the discussions, which centered on re-establishing KBR's presence in Algeria.
The talks reviewed opportunities for collaboration and strategic projects, particularly in engineering, project management, and advanced technologies. These efforts align with Algeria's goals to develop its hydrocarbon sector, bolster industrial and technological capabilities, and modernize energy and industrial facilities. Minister Arkab emphasized the importance of forging partnerships with leading global companies to leverage their expertise and advanced technologies, promoting local content and knowledge transfer. He also encouraged KBR to capitalize on the Algerian market's opportunities and participate in major investment projects, including those in gas development, processing industries, and modern technologies.
KBR expressed its interest in supporting Sonatrach through its technical and managerial expertise, alongside advanced technologies, specifically in oil and gas upstream activities to increase production capacity, as well as in petrochemicals. The company highlighted its extensive experience in Algeria and its long-standing relationship with Sonatrach, which dates back to the early 1980s. During this period, KBR contributed to significant projects, including liquefied natural gas facilities in Skikda and Arzew, gas and oil treatment units, ammonia production units, and programs for renewing and modernizing industrial facilities.
The American company affirmed its intention to designate Algeria as a priority market within the North Africa region. KBR also indicated its readiness to establish a dedicated national structure for engineering and project management, utilizing both local and international competencies and resources. The delegation underscored its commitment to strengthening the company's presence in Algeria and contributing to the realization of major industrial and investment projects, offering its technological and engineering capabilities to support Algeria's development programs and foster long-term cooperation with Sonatrach and national institutions.
