Glass Walkways, Promenades Shape Algiers Waterfront
The 'Plan Bleu', a comprehensive program for the development and modernization of the Algerian capital, is advancing with significant progress in transforming Algiers' maritime facade. Minister-Wali Mohamed Abdenour Rabehi recently conducted an inspection tour of several key sites, underscoring the strategic vision to reconnect the city with its coastline from west to east. This initiative aims to enhance and valorize the entire waterfront, converting it into a vibrant urban space.
Specific elements of the 'Plan Bleu' include the construction of a panoramic promenade connecting Place des Martyrs to the Port de la Pêcherie park, alongside a striking glass walkway designed to highlight the archaeological vestiges at Place des Martyrs. Further enhancements are underway in Bab el Oued, where an esplanade for walks and leisure is being realized near the Ferhani stadium, complementing the existing El Kettani promenade. Additionally, an extensive terrace spanning 16,000 square meters and a 400-space parking facility are part of the second section of the promenade linking the Port de la Pêcherie to Boulevard Che Guevara, with a redeveloped quay at Square Port Saïd offering new spaces for relaxation.
The 'Plan Bleu' envisions transforming the Bay of Algiers into a hub for walking, leisure, and relaxation while simultaneously showcasing its rich historical heritage. This ambitious endeavor seeks to integrate historical sectors like the Casbah and Place des Martyrs more effectively with urban areas and the sea, ensuring improved accessibility. Minister-Wali Rabehi has emphasized the critical importance of respecting project deadlines and maintaining high-quality standards in all ongoing works, aiming to strengthen the capital's appeal for both its residents and visitors.
