Education Ministry Prepares for 2026-2027 School Year Success

Dr. Mohamed Seghir Saadaoui, Algeria's Minister of National Education, led a national video conference in Algiers focused on preparations for the 2026-2027 school year. The meeting, attended by central administration officials, directors of national offices for exams, competitions, and school publications, alongside education directors, aimed to ensure a smooth and normal start across all provinces. Attendees observed a moment of silence and offered condolences for recent fire victims, setting a context for supporting affected communities.

The Minister issued directives emphasizing comprehensive readiness for educational institutions and dedicated support for fire-damaged areas, particularly Jijel, with 23 affected institutions, and Bejaia, with six. Instructions included close field monitoring of these sites and coordination with housing services to address structural repairs, targeting completion by September 10, 2026. Psychological, pedagogical, social, and material assistance for affected students and staff were mandated, alongside an accurate census of those impacted. Efforts to resolve delays in 2024 and 2025 educational infrastructure programs and accelerate the 2026 program were also highlighted, with financial support guaranteed for stalled projects upon submission of required documentation.

Further preparations included ensuring the swift completion of all operations related to teacher recruitment based on certificates, adhering strictly to civil service regulations for appointments and activation of reserve lists. The distribution of over 80 million school books nationwide, with 30 million designated for free distribution and more than 26 million for sale through a network of 38 official outlets, 1641 accredited bookstores, and 7774 educational institutions, was also detailed. The Minister underscored the importance of ensuring book availability, convenient sales points, and specialized provisions for visually impaired students.

The conference also introduced a unified internal regulation model for educational institutions, to be strictly and broadly applied to organize school life and maintain order. A national school cleaning campaign, scheduled from September 6 to September 17, 2026, was announced to ensure a clean and safe learning environment. Additionally, the "School Health Week" program will be implemented at the start of the academic year, with an expanded distribution of health products to students across the country in collaboration with the Ministry of Pharmaceutical Industry. The Minister commended the national spirit and solidarity shown by the sector's staff and volunteers in preparing institutions and repairing damages, reaffirming the Ministry's commitment to continuous monitoring for a successful school year that meets the expectations of Algerian families.
