The Ministry of Environment and Renewable Energies has initiated amendments and completions to certain provisions of Executive Decree No. 06-198 dated May 31, 2006, which regulates classified establishments for environmental protection.
According to the ministry’s statement on Wednesday, this initiative follows the evaluation of the process for regularizing existing classified establishments operating without a license or exploitation permit, which was initially set for one year by the Ministry of Environment and Renewable Energies. The assessment revealed several shortcomings and obstacles that needed to be addressed before the regulatory deadline.
It is worth noting that the regularization process did not achieve significant progress or its intended goal by the deadline of April 19, 2023, with only 12% of the concerned establishments submitting regularization requests.
The ministry announced an extension of the regularization period for classified establishments for three more years from the date of the decree’s issuance. Additionally, the procedures for declaring the exploitation of fourth-category classified establishments have been amended, particularly regarding the consideration of the opinion of the local Director of Environment and the relevant sector.
