Three Presidential Candidates Approved for Upcoming Algerian Elections

The National Independent Authority for Elections in Algeria has approved three candidates for the upcoming presidential elections scheduled for September 7.

In a press conference today, Mohamed Charfi announced the approval of the candidacies of Hassani Abdelali Cherif, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, and Youssef Aouchiche.

Charfi revealed that 4.5 million individual voter signature forms and 90,000 elected official signature forms were collected. The deliberation process, which took place over two sessions, resulted in the approval of three files and the rejection of 13.

Candidate Youssef Aouchiche submitted 1,257 elected official signature forms across 31 provinces, of which 1,250 were accepted and seven were rejected. Candidate Abdelmadjid Tebboune submitted 482,533 individual voter signature forms across 58 provinces and abroad, of which 416,320 were accepted and 66,213 were rejected. He also submitted 18,600 elected official signature forms, with 18,095 accepted, 188 rejected as invalid, and 323 rejected as duplicates.

As for candidate Abdelali Hassani Cherif, he submitted 87,586 individual voter signature forms across 85 provinces, with 79,782 accepted and 9,654 rejected. He also submitted 2,021 elected official signature forms across 50 provinces, with 1,986 accepted, 35 rejected, two invalid, and 23 duplicates.
