People’s National Assembly President Praises Imams’ National Role

Algeria recently commemorated the National Day of the Imam on September 15, an annual observance established by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. This occasion serves to recognize the significant position imams hold within society and their contributions to upholding the national religious identity. Khalida Bouda, President of the People's National Assembly, expressed her appreciation for the dedicated efforts of Algerian imams in fulfilling their religious and national duties.
Ms. Bouda lauded the imams for their pivotal role in strengthening the national religious reference point and fostering societal cohesion. She particularly highlighted their mission to disseminate values of moderation and balance, which are essential for promoting harmony and unity within the community and for serving the nation. The President of the People's National Assembly reiterated that this day provides an opportunity to acknowledge the imam's importance and their role in spreading balanced religious discourse while preserving the national religious framework.
Further reinforcing this recognition, Youcef Belmehdi, the Minister of Religious Affairs and Endowments, presided over the fifth official celebration of the National Day of the Imam in El Oued province. The extensive program included honoring retired religious elders and recognizing the winners of a national competition for the best sermon, which saw participation from over 128 imams. Additionally, a scientific forum was organized under the theme "The Role of the Imam in Strengthening National Religious Reference and Protecting Society from Extremism," with celebrations extending across various provinces.
This year's observance was further distinguished by the introduction of a national and international award for the Prophet's biography, an initiative also approved by President Tebboune. These collective efforts and new initiatives underscore the state's profound care and support for imams, scholars, and their vital role in serving the Holy Quran and maintaining religious institutions across the nation.
