Niger Names Algerian Nabil Neghiz New Mena Coach

The Nigerien Football Federation (FENIFOOT) officially announced the appointment of Algerian technician Nabil Neghiz as the new head coach of the country's national team, the Mena, on Friday, September 11, 2026. Mr. Neghiz's primary mission under this contract with FENIFOOT is to enhance the Mena's level and secure optimal results in forthcoming international competitions, notably the qualifiers for the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) 2027. FENIFOOT officials described the selection of Neghiz as a carefully considered choice.

FENIFOOT President Issaka Adamou affirmed the relevance of Nabil Neghiz's profile, citing his extensive professional experience, coupled with his human and technical qualities, as crucial for elevating the Mena to a higher standard. Enthusiastic about leading the team ahead of continental challenges, Neghiz expressed his readiness to embrace the task. Nabil Neghiz, 51, brings a wealth of coaching experience, having managed several high-level clubs across Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, and Tunisia. He also served as assistant coach and interim coach for the Algerian national team, the Fennecs. A holder of CAF Pro, CAF A, and CAF B licenses, he further possesses a Master's Degree in Sport Coaching and Level 3 sports coaching training. His expertise in team management, tactical preparation, performance analysis, and the handling of professional player groups was a key factor in his selection through a rigorous process that evaluated multiple candidates, positioning him to establish a competitive and consistent Mena on the African stage.
