Hammamet Hosts Joint Media Forum for Algerian, Tunisian Journalists

The Tunisian-Algerian summer university "Joussour" has commenced in Hammamet, Tunisia, with activities running from September 15 to 20. Organized by the Algerian National Union of Journalists and Information Professionals (UNJIA) in collaboration with the International Association for the Defense of Human Rights and Media, the initiative brings together Algerian and Tunisian journalists under the theme "From solidarity to cooperation: a media that builds immunity."

Mosbeh Kédidi, Secretary General of the UNJIA, stated that the summer university primarily seeks to enhance cooperation and strengthen ties between journalists from both nations. The program aims to create a network of Algerian and Tunisian media professionals, fostering rapprochement and working to counter hate speech, incitement, and divisive narratives. Mr. Kédidi emphasized the goal of constructing "a bridge of love and brotherhood" against destructive discourse.

The "Joussour" university curriculum includes interactive workshops focused on strengthening understanding between the two peoples. Training sessions cover topics such as artificial intelligence, the media's role in crisis reporting, coverage of natural disasters like fires, and environmental journalism. Furthermore, the UNJIA plans to host a second summer university in Algeria, which will involve Tunisian journalists and aim to broaden cooperation to include professional associations and unions from other neighboring countries, thereby expanding the network dedicated to combating hate speech and providing reliable information to counter foreign narratives that may act against the interests of both nations.
