Mordor Intelligence Forecasts Algeria’s Leading Renewable Energy Growth

A recent report by global research and consulting firm Mordor Intelligence projects Algeria to achieve the fastest growth rate in Africa's renewable energy market between 2026 and 2031. The report forecasts a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 42.51 percent for Algeria's renewable energy sector during this period, signaling the nation's significant progress and potential in clean energy.

This anticipated growth is primarily attributed to substantial national initiatives, including a tender for solar energy projects with a total capacity of 1 gigawatt, alongside Algeria's strategic investment in green hydrogen projects. Complementing these future plans, two solar power plants with a combined capacity of 400 megawatts have already commenced operations this year, underscoring ongoing efforts to expand clean electricity production.

Looking ahead to 2026, Algeria aims to bring online an additional 1,400 megawatts of renewable energy capacity through various upcoming projects. These initiatives are part of the initial phase of a broader program to develop 3,200 megawatts of photovoltaic solar power, which encompasses the construction of 22 plants across several regions. This comprehensive effort aligns with Algeria's ambitious national program to reach a total solar energy production capacity of 15,000 megawatts by 2035.

The accelerated implementation of these projects highlights Algeria's commitment to diversifying its energy mix and reducing reliance on traditional energy sources for electricity generation. By developing new capabilities in solar and green hydrogen, Algeria is actively strengthening its presence in the African clean energy market, reinforcing its strategic position in the continent's energy transition.
