Prime Minister Gharib Chairs Review of Presidential Directives
Prime Minister Seifi Gharib presided over a government meeting this Thursday, September 17, 2026, which focused on reviewing the implementation of decisions made by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune during the most recent Council of Ministers meeting. This session served as a platform for evaluating the progress and effectiveness of these presidential directives across various sectors, ensuring their thorough execution.
During the meeting, the government adopted the National Strategy for the Prevention and Combat of Neighborhood Gangs for the period 2026-2029. This strategy, presented by the Minister of Interior, Local Communities, and Transport, is designed to protect Algerian families and maintain public order through an integrated, multi-faceted approach encompassing prevention, deterrence, reintegration, and awareness. An inter-ministerial meeting is scheduled to approve sectoral action plans and establish mechanisms for monitoring and performance measurement. Additionally, the government reviewed proposals for expanding the national digital services portal and promoting the use of official documents extracted from it by various administrations, aligning with the National Digital Transformation Strategy (2025-2030).
Further discussions included an update on the progress of restoring historical monuments and prominent palaces within the safeguarded sector of the Casbah of Algiers. This initiative is part of the strategic vision for the development and modernization of Algiers, particularly concerning the protection of the Casbah, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1992. The restoration efforts, guided by precise technical studies, aim to rehabilitate damaged alleys and homes, thereby enhancing the historical and urban character of the Casbah and boosting its cultural, economic, and tourism appeal.
