Saidal Director General Leads Pharma Talks in Benin

A multisectoral Algerian delegation is currently in Cotonou, Benin, participating in the high-level governmental investment platform, 'Benin Deal Room 2026', held from September 16 to 18. This engagement aims to promote investments and reinforce bilateral cooperation, particularly within the pharmaceutical industry, between the two nations.

During their visit, the Algerian delegation, led by the Director General of the public group Saidal, Younes Bouarara, met with Benin's Minister of Health, Benjamin Ignace Bondonrin Hounkpatin. The meeting, which also included the Algerian Ambassador to Benin, Ammar Hadjar, provided an opportunity to explore avenues for strengthening partnership in medicine production. Discussions encompassed developing exchanges, supporting the presence of Algerian pharmaceutical products in the Beninese market, and future cooperation in the transfer of expertise, training, and technology.

This visit aligns with the implementation of the outcomes from the African Ministerial Conference on Local Production of Medicines and other Health Technologies, held in Algiers in November 2025. That conference culminated in the unanimous adoption of the "Algiers Declaration," a roadmap designed to enhance Africa's health sovereignty. The delegation's efforts reflect Algeria's ongoing commitment to promoting African cooperation and integration by expanding partnerships with African countries, sharing expertise, and reinforcing capabilities in medicine production, thereby contributing to the continent's health security and sovereignty.
