Belarusian Parliament President Meets Algerian Leadership on Cooperation
Algerian Prime Minister Seif Ghorri and President of the Council of the Nation Azouz Nasri recently engaged in high-level discussions with Natalia Kochanova, the President of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus and special envoy of the Belarusian President. These meetings underscored a shared commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation, exploring new avenues for economic diversification, increasing mutual investments, and deepening existing partnerships between the two nations. The talks were conducted in direct implementation of directives from both Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenka, building upon agreements reached during the Belarusian President's official visit to Algeria in December 2025.
During her meeting with Prime Minister Ghorri, Ms. Kochanova led a high-level Belarusian delegation that included Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Karankevich and Industry Minister Andrei Kuznetsov. The Algerian side included Minister of Industry Farid Kourtel, Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Fisheries Sid Ali Khaldi, and Minister of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion Kamal Rezig. Both parties expressed satisfaction with the growing dynamic in Algerian-Belarusian relations, affirming the importance of redoubling efforts to realize joint projects across various sectors, which have already seen tangible progress. Discussions also highlighted the necessity of exploring new prospects to diversify cooperation, boost investments, and enhance the volume of trade exchanges for the mutual benefit of both friendly peoples.
Separately, President Azouz Nasri received Ms. Kochanova to review strategies for enhancing parliamentary cooperation between Algeria and Belarus. Discussions focused on establishing parliamentary friendship groups and facilitating exchanges of visits between legislative bodies. In this context, an upcoming visit by President Nasri to Belarus was announced, aiming to finalize and sign a memorandum of understanding between Algeria's Council of the Nation and its Belarusian counterpart. Ms. Kochanova concluded her visit by describing Algeria as a wonderful country, highlighting its rich history and traditions, akin to the Republic of Belarus.
