Nouakchott Hosts Algerian Minister for Cooperation Talks

The Algerian Minister of State and Dean of the Grand Mosque, Cheikh Mohamed Maamoun Al Kacimi El Hassani, recently visited Nouakchott for discussions with Mr. Islem Ould Sidi El Moustapha, President of Mauritania’s High Council of Fatwas and Grace Appeals. This meeting aimed to strengthen scientific and religious cooperation between the two nations, fostering deeper bilateral relations.

During the encounter at the Council's headquarters, the Mauritanian High Council President welcomed the Algerian Minister, acknowledging the deep fraternal, scientific, and historical bonds shared by Mauritania and Algeria. He outlined the Council's responsibilities in religious edicts and appeals, and expressed a clear interest in expanding scientific collaboration. Significantly, Mr. El Moustapha hoped to leverage Algerian publications related to Islamic heritage, signaling recognition of Algeria's contributions in this field.

For his part, Minister Al Kacimi El Hassani conveyed his appreciation for the visit to the High Council, highlighting its scholarly standing and crucial role in religious guidance. He also lauded Mauritanian scientific expertise and adherence to the Malikite reference. The Algerian Minister underscored the shared objective of enhancing cooperation and scientific exchange between the religious institutions of both countries, in a meeting that also included Mauritania's Secretary General of the Ministry of Islamic Affairs and Original Education and Algeria's Ambassador to Nouakchott.
