Algiers, Cairo Affirm Tripartite Coordination for Libya

Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf held a telephone discussion with his Egyptian counterpart, Badr Abdelatty, focusing on strengthening bilateral ties and coordinating regional approaches. The ministers affirmed their commitment to building on the positive momentum in Algerian-Egyptian relations and diligently implementing the outcomes from the 9th session of the Joint High Committee, particularly concerning economic, trade, and investment cooperation.

A central point of their conversation was the critical importance of continuing coordination within the tripartite mechanism of neighboring countries on Libya. Both officials emphasized that this collaborative framework is crucial for supporting a political resolution that upholds Libya's unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. This commitment reflects a shared diplomatic effort to foster stability in the region.

The tripartite consultative mechanism, comprising Algeria, Egypt, and Tunisia, previously established a consensus that any settlement to the Libyan crisis must originate from the will of the Libyan people, free from regional or international interference. During their recent call, Ministers Attaf and Abdelatty reaffirmed their rejection of all forms of foreign intervention in Libya's internal affairs. They also exchanged views on broader regional developments affecting Arab national security, stressing the importance of enhanced consultation and coordination to address common challenges.
