Prime Minister Ghrieb, Belarusian Envoy Review Joint Projects

Algerian Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb held discussions on Thursday with Natalia Kochanova, President of the Council of the Republic of Belarus and special envoy of the Belarusian President, at the Government Palace. The meeting involved key Algerian ministers including Farid Kourtel of Industry, Sid Ali Khaldi of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries, and Kamel Rezig of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion. The Belarusian delegation also included Vice-Prime Minister Viktor Karankevitch and Minister of Industry Andrei Kuznetsov, signaling a focus on economic collaboration. Both parties acknowledged the increasing momentum in Algeria-Belarusian relations, which follows directives from President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and his Belarusian counterpart, Alexandre Loukachenko, established during President Loukachenko's official visit to Algeria in December 2025.

The discussions aimed to intensify efforts towards realizing joint projects across various sectors, where notable progress in implementation has already been observed. The two nations emphasized the importance of exploring new avenues to diversify cooperation, strengthen investments, and expand the volume of trade exchanges, serving the mutual interests of their peoples. Specific sectors identified for expanded partnership include agriculture, industry, education, health, and pharmaceuticals. This commitment to concrete outcomes was exemplified by a recent contract signed between the Algerian dairy group Giplait and the Belarusian company Bellakt for the production of infant milk. In a related development, Minister Rezig also met with Belarusian Ambassador Evgueni Sobolevski and a delegation of businessmen to discuss bolstering economic and commercial ties and establishing productive, sustainable partnerships beyond simple trade.

These high-level engagements underscore the deepening strategic partnership between Algiers and Minsk. President Tebboune also received Ms. Kochanova, with their discussions centering on the implementation modalities for agreements concluded during the December 2025 presidential visit, which laid the groundwork for enhanced economic, commercial, scientific, and technical cooperation. Furthermore, parliamentary cooperation is also advancing, with Ms. Kochanova meeting with the President of the Council of the Nation, Azouz Nasri, to explore strengthening ties between legislative institutions, including future exchanges and a prospective memorandum of understanding. The ongoing series of meetings reflects a shared determination to translate political commitments into tangible progress, further solidifying the bilateral relationship.
