Minister Attaf Holds Bilateral Talks with Libyan, Ugandan, Sierra Leonean Ministers
Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, increased his diplomatic activity in New York prior to the commencement of the high-level segment of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. Among his meetings, Minister Attaf held discussions with Mr. Al-Taher Salem Al-Baour, the Minister of State responsible for managing the affairs of the Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Their talks addressed recent developments in Libya and ongoing efforts to advance the political process, aiming to restore security and stability in the nation. During the meeting, the Minister of State reiterated Algeria's steadfast position in support of Libya's unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, emphasizing the necessity of reaching a comprehensive political settlement to the Libyan crisis based on the principle of Libyan leadership and ownership of the political process, while preserving state unity and institutions to meet the aspirations of the Libyan people for stability and prosperity. Both parties also agreed on the need to intensify consultation, coordination, and joint efforts to address common challenges in the Saharo-Sahel region, thereby contributing to the consolidation of peace, security, and stability across the entire region.
Minister Attaf also engaged in discussions with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uganda, Adonia Ayebare. Their conversation focused on development issues and underscored the importance of strengthening international cooperation to ensure the achievement of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, particularly for the nations and peoples of the African continent. This meeting also provided an opportunity to review the ongoing preparations for the Non-Aligned Movement Ministerial Summit, scheduled to be held in Kampala before the end of the current year, and reaffirmed the necessity of continued coordination and consultation between Algeria and Uganda to ensure the success of this significant event.
Furthermore, Ahmed Attaf held talks with his counterpart from the Republic of Sierra Leone, Mohamed Rahman Swaray. The ministers highlighted the importance of productive coordination between their two countries during their tenures as non-permanent members of the Security Council, especially within the framework of the “A3” mechanism. The Algerian Minister of State congratulated his Sierra Leonean counterpart on his country's valuable contribution as chairman of the Committee of Ten Heads of State and Government of the African Union on the reform of the UN Security Council, further solidifying bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
