Jijel Hosts National University Year Launch with Economic Focus

Kamel Baddari, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, officially inaugurated the new university academic year for 2026-2027 this Tuesday from the "Mohamed Seddik Ben Yahia" University in Jijel. The ceremony, held at the "Djerfi M'barek" hall within the "Tassoust" university pole, marked the commencement of academic activities for approximately 1,884,839 students across Algeria's universities and research centers. The event also saw participation from the Wali of Jijel, Ahmed Meguelati, and other university officials, while the launch was also followed remotely from El Bayadh's Nour El Bachir University Center, where the Wali, Nordine Belaaribi, emphasized the university's role in local development.

This academic year's launch underscores a strategic national commitment to transforming universities into active partners in economic development and wealth creation. The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has mobilized extensive human and material resources to support this vision, aiming to provide a stimulating educational environment that fosters innovation and excellence. The objective is to align academic research with regional needs, encouraging students to develop entrepreneurial projects that can generate employment and contribute to local economic growth.

As part of this initiative in Jijel, Minister Baddari presided over the signing of three conventions between the University of Jijel and key public economic enterprises, including Djen Djen Port, Kotama Agrifood, and Cosider. Additionally, the Minister inaugurated an entrepreneurship center, a digitized Faculty of Law, and an annex of the École Normale Supérieure. The visit also featured an exhibition showcasing start-up companies active in the fields of electronics and artificial intelligence, highlighting the practical application of academic innovation.
