The Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic’s Ambassador to Algeria, Abdelkader Taleb Omar, expressed strong condemnation of the French government’s decision to recognize Morocco’s alleged sovereignty over Western Sahara under its autonomy plan.

In an exclusive interview with “Sapev Press,” Taleb Omar emphasized that France, as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, is blatantly violating international law with this controversial stance.

The Sahrawi ambassador clarified that the French position lacks international legitimacy, underscoring that the Western Sahara issue is a decolonization matter, recognized under international law by the United Nations.

He further argued that France’s stance reveals the intentions of colonial powers, the Moroccan regime, and Zionist entities to escalate tensions in the region, foster instability, and undermine opportunities for peace and human rights.

Taleb Omar noted that the French government’s blatant support for Morocco’s position on the Western Sahara issue is not new, highlighting that France has consistently backed Moroccan occupation with increasingly alarming positions over the years.

The Sahrawi ambassador praised Algeria’s unwavering stance in defending the Western Sahara cause, expressing full confidence in Algeria’s pivotal role in upholding international law and the relevant UN resolutions on decolonization, while preserving the principles of freedom, democracy, equality, and peace.
