Minister Rezig Signals Global Brands’ Local Production Plans

Algerian Foreign Trade and Export Promotion Minister Kamel Rezig recently announced that new international clothing and footwear brands are poised to enter the Algerian market in the coming weeks. These global brands intend to localize a portion of their production, aligning with Algeria's broader objective to deepen domestic manufacturing capabilities and attract fresh investments. The announcement followed a working meeting in Algiers where Minister Rezig engaged with economic operators representing various international single-brand clothing and footwear labels.

During the meeting, discussions focused on reviewing local production indicators for the first half of 2026, alongside an assessment of current production and export capacities and future development prospects. Minister Rezig welcomed the observed increase in output from global brands already manufacturing in Algeria. He underscored that the localization of production is a crucial strategy for boosting domestic value added, reinforcing industrial capacity, and integrating Algerian operators into the international value chains associated with these major brands.

The anticipated arrival of new international brands signifies the growing appeal of the Algerian market and its capacity to draw new investment and production activities. Furthermore, Minister Rezig called for the expedited completion of banking domiciliation procedures, particularly for single-brand clothing and footwear operators who had not finalized these processes during the first half of the year, concerning projected imports intended for sale as imported goods.
