Ibrahim Bergendagji Named Rapporteur for Arab Anti-Corruption Conference

The Sixth Session of the Conference of States Parties to the Arab Convention against Corruption, hosted in Doha, concluded with Algeria's representative, Ibrahim Bergendagji, selected as rapporteur. The event gathered participants from 21 states to deliberate on enhancing regional efforts against corruption, highlighting Algeria's active involvement in these significant discussions.

During the session, the conference approved a series of resolutions aimed at reinforcing preventative measures, increasing transparency, and strengthening legal cooperation among Arab nations. Key outcomes included the endorsement of the "Doha Declaration," which focuses on promoting beneficial ownership transparency and accurately identifying the real beneficiaries of legal entities and arrangements, underscoring a commitment to greater financial clarity.

Further decisions concentrated on advancing international cooperation in the fight against corruption, particularly by expediting responses to mutual legal assistance requests between states. Participants also agreed to convene a meeting for experts from justice and interior ministries, alongside anti-corruption bodies, to conceptualize a unified Arab guide for parallel financial investigations into corruption crimes. This guide aims to track funds and assets linked to corruption, supporting efforts to uncover and recover illicit proceeds effectively.
