National Auto Industry, Seized Projects See Revival Under Presidential Oversight
President Abdelmadjid Tebboune is actively overseeing the revival of Algeria's national automotive industry and the relaunch of various industrial projects, many of which were previously seized through judicial rulings as part of the nation's anti-corruption campaign. This initiative aims to transform these assets into genuine engines for national industrial development, adhering to a well-defined strategy that integrates them efficiently into the economic cycle. The President's personal commitment underscores a broader objective to support productive investment, bolster national industrial capabilities, and elevate the local integration rate across production chains.
In line with this commitment, Prime Minister Sifi Ghrib recently inaugurated the "General Plastic Injection" unit in Tissemsilt, a facility crucial for producing plastic components and accessories for the automotive sector. During his visit, the Prime Minister announced stringent measures to promote reliance on national products and increase the integration rate in manufacturing industries, particularly for vehicles. He set a firm deadline of December 31 for the cessation of imports for plastic parts that can be manufactured domestically, mandating that all approved vehicle manufacturing and assembly operators in Algeria utilize locally produced plastic components from the beginning of the next year under strict conditions.
The Tissemsilt plant, which cost 5 billion DZD and created 300 direct and 500 indirect jobs, represents a significant step in developing a national industrial system with high added value. Prime Minister Ghrib emphasized that Algeria has begun constructing a genuine automotive industry designed to serve the national economy and enrich its fabric. He affirmed that the process of recovering and relaunching projects confiscated under anti-corruption rulings is progressing steadily, with the President keen on ensuring all agreed deadlines are met. Many more industrial projects across several provinces are slated for relaunch soon, with the state committed to revitalizing other "forgotten" initiatives and announcing additional projects in the near future.
