OPEC Secretary General Arrives in Algeria for Key Talks

OPEC Secretary General Haitham Al Ghais is undertaking a working visit to Algeria from September 26 to 29, following an invitation from Minister of Hydrocarbons Mohamed Arkab. This visit holds particular importance as it coincides with the commemoration of the tenth anniversary of the historic Algiers Agreement, signed on September 28, 2016.

The 2016 Algiers Agreement marked a pivotal phase in enhancing dialogue and cooperation between OPEC member states and non-OPEC producing nations. This accord laid the fundamental groundwork for the "Declaration of Cooperation" (DoC), which was adopted weeks later in December 2016 and subsequently became known as the "OPEC+" framework. During his stay in Algeria, Mr. Al Ghais is scheduled to hold a series of meetings and discussions with several senior state officials, including Minister Mohamed Arkab.
