Digitalization to Enhance Algerian Visitor Experience
Algeria is set to integrate digital and artificial intelligence technologies to significantly enhance the tourist experience within the country. Minister of Tourism and Handicrafts, Houria Meddahi, detailed this strategic evolution during a speech on World Tourism Day, emphasizing that these technologies are now central to the sector's advancement. The minister highlighted that artificial intelligence and digitalization are no longer merely supplementary tools but have become essential drivers for redefining the global tourism landscape.
Key initiatives outlined by the Ministry include the development of smart platforms and applications designed to offer personalized tourist itineraries and tailored support services for visitors. This modernization effort also encompasses streamlining reservation processes and improving visitor flow management across various tourist infrastructures, aiming to make services more accessible and responsive to traveler expectations. Furthermore, the transformation extends to the operational management of hotels and tourist establishments, with plans for developing electronic payment methods and implementing digital quality standards, while ensuring professional efficiency and a high standard of hospitality.
To foster greater coordination among tourism professionals, the Ministry intends to establish a unified digital environment. This platform will connect hotel and tourist village managers, travel agencies, and tour guides, facilitating a more integrated and cohesive tourism offering. The strategy also incorporates the handicraft sector, recognizing its importance to Algeria's cultural identity. Efforts will focus on providing artisans with digital tools and e-commerce platforms to market their products, alongside measures to protect traditional designs, thereby enhancing the value of artisanal products within Algeria's cultural tourism offerings.
Innovation is also a central pillar, with the "IA Tour Algérie 2026" competition launched by the tourism sector to stimulate the development of digital solutions.
