Algeria’s participation in the Paralympic Games has been marked by an impressive record of 85 medals (27 gold, 22 silver, and 36 bronze) throughout its history. As the nation prepares for the 17th edition of the Paralympics in Paris (August 28 – September 8, 2024), Algerian athletes with disabilities are determined to continue their legacy of excellence by adding more accolades to their historic achievements and maintaining their upward trajectory in these prestigious events.

Athletics has been the most successful discipline for Algeria in the Paralympics, accounting for 75 medals (23 gold, 22 silver, and 30 bronze), followed by judo with 9 medals (4 gold and 5 bronze), and powerlifting with a single bronze medal.

Algeria’s first appearance in the Paralympics, at the Barcelona 1992 Games, served as a significant learning experience, paving the way for future successes. Since then, the country’s athletes have consistently demonstrated improvement, with notable achievements across several games, including the record-setting performances of the late Mohamed Allak in Atlanta 1996 and the unprecedented gold medal haul in Athens 2004.

As the Algerian delegation prepares for the Paris 2024 Games, the athletes (men and women) aim to further cement their place in the history books by achieving unparalleled success that will shine a spotlight on Algerian sports for athletes with disabilities on the global stage.
