The Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, launched a rocket barrage targeting Tel Aviv, marking the anniversary of the “Al-Aqsa Flood” operation that Palestinian resistance factions initiated on October 7, 2023. The attack was a response to continued Israeli massacres against civilians and the forced displacement of Palestinians.
This is the first time Tel Aviv has been targeted by Al-Qassam since August 13, 2024, when the city was hit by two “M90” missiles. The Israeli Home Front Command confirmed that air raid sirens sounded across Greater Tel Aviv and central Israel as rockets were fired from the Gaza Strip.
According to Israeli reports, five rockets were launched from the Khan Younis area in southern Gaza. The Israeli Iron Dome intercepted several of the missiles, but shrapnel fell in the city of Holon, south of Tel Aviv. Israeli media also reported temporary suspension of flights at Ben Gurion Airport and heightened alert levels as more rockets were expected from Gaza.
The attack, which resulted in minor injuries according to Israeli emergency services, demonstrated that Hamas has successfully rebuilt its strength in Khan Younis, an area previously targeted by Israeli military operations. Israeli media acknowledged the army’s failure to prevent the attack, suggesting that Hamas retains significant command and control capabilities despite ongoing military efforts.
