Algeria and Italy Strengthen Cooperation in Archaeological Heritage Preservation

Algeria and Italy have agreed to enhance their collaboration in the field of archaeological research and heritage preservation. This development came during a meeting between Algerian Prime Minister Nadir Larbaoui and Italian Ambassador to Algeria Alberto Cutillo, with the presence of Algerian Minister of Culture and Arts Soraya Mouloudji.

Key points of the agreement include:

  1. Organizing a scientific conference bringing together specialists, scientists, and experts from both countries to define a comprehensive work program.
  2. Collaboration in archaeological excavation research.
  3. Joint efforts in preserving and managing archaeological heritage.
  4. Cooperation in training and higher education in archaeology and heritage studies.

This initiative builds upon the already strong bilateral relations between Algeria and Italy, which have seen significant progress following President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s state visit to Italy in May 2022. Both sides emphasized the importance of expanding scientific and cultural cooperation, leveraging the historical friendship between the two nations.

The agreement aims to capitalize on the expertise of both countries in archaeology and heritage management, potentially leading to new discoveries and improved preservation techniques for Algeria’s rich archaeological sites. This collaboration is expected to contribute significantly to the understanding and protection of Algeria’s cultural heritage while fostering closer ties between Algerian and Italian academic and cultural institutions.
