Finance Minister Faïd Chairs Evaluation Meeting on Strategic Plan of the General Directorate for Foresight

Algiers – On Monday, October 14, 2024, Finance Minister Laaziz Faïd presided over a coordination meeting aimed at evaluating the implementation of the strategic plan of the General Directorate for Foresight, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Finance.

This meeting is part of a series of efforts to strengthen coordination and synergy between various entities of the Ministry of Finance, particularly the departments responsible for economic forecasting and foresight. These include the General Directorate for Estimation and Policies, the General Directorate for Foresight, and the National Bureau of Statistics.

The Ministry highlighted that the purpose of these efforts is to encourage collaborative work and to enhance the strategic role of the General Directorate for Foresight in shaping Algeria’s long-term economic vision, such as the “Algeria 2040” initiative and future plans beyond that.

During the meeting, Minister Faïd emphasized the critical importance of focusing on human resource development as a central pillar of the Ministry’s initiatives. He reminded attendees that the success of sustainable economic development strategies fundamentally relies on the skills and commitment of the teams involved.

The minister also stressed the need for intensified efforts and smoother information flow between the various bodies to strengthen the process of informed and effective decision-making.

According to the Ministry, the strategic priorities of the General Directorate for Foresight are structured around several key areas. These include conducting forward-looking studies and analyses on economic, regional, social, human, environmental, and technological development issues. Additionally, the directorate evaluates the coherence and effectiveness of current development policies and programs.

Simultaneously, the directorate is focused on acquiring advanced tools and methods for foresight analysis to improve its predictive capabilities.

Enhancing human capacities is also a core focus, with continuous training being provided to staff on technical and analytical aspects essential for performing their duties effectively.

Minister Faïd underlined the “importance of integrating resource allocation aspects into the strategic plan of the General Directorate for Foresight” and emphasized the need to address the informal economy as part of efforts to strengthen the adaptability of the national economy in the face of current challenges.

The statement noted that the year 2025 is expected to be a “pivotal year” for Algeria, marking the beginning of a new term centered around economic performance. The role of the Ministry of Finance will be “crucial” in meeting the expectations of the country’s leadership and executing the necessary actions to achieve the set objectives, particularly by prioritizing the foresight dimension in economic forecasting.

The official in charge of the General Directorate for Foresight presented the key accomplishments of the directorate during the meeting, as well as its action plan for 2025, emphasizing the need to implement the strategic objectives and meet the set goals.

Among the major contributions of the General Directorate for Foresight are the development of “Algeria Vision 2030” and “Algeria Vision 2035.”

The meeting concluded by reaffirming that this initiative is part of an ongoing “dynamic of continuous consultation aimed at fostering discussion on optimal strategies to achieve the outlined goals while enhancing the active and effective participation of relevant stakeholders.”
