Algiers – President Abdelmadjid Tebboune reaffirmed on Wednesday Algeria’s unwavering support for Libya, emphasizing that the resolution to the Libyan crisis “can only be achieved through elections.”
In a joint press statement with the President of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mohamed Younes Menfi, following their meeting at the Algerian presidential headquarters, Tebboune provided insights into the discussions. “During these fraternal consultations, we addressed the current situation in Libya and ways to enhance bilateral relations between Algeria and Libya,” Tebboune explained. He stressed, “The outcome of our talks is that we are in full agreement, and there are no disagreements or tensions between us and our Libyan brothers.”
Expressing hope for peace and stability in Libya, the President reiterated, “The only path to resolving the Libyan crisis is through elections.” He noted that this view was shared by Menfi, confirming both countries’ alignment on the issue.
Tebboune further underlined that the Libyan people must be the ultimate decision-makers in determining their future, and any outcome they choose must be respected by all. “We extend our sincere wishes for stability and prosperity to our Libyan brothers,” he added.
The President also expressed optimism about future engagements between the two nations, stating, “We look forward to more visits and collaborations. In fact, we are preparing for a tripartite meeting between Algeria, Tunisia, and Libya in the near future, and we await a date to be set by President Mohamed Younes Menfi.”
