Algiers – On Wednesday, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune renewed the Algerian state’s commitment to defending the interests of the national community abroad and ensuring optimal conditions for their integration into the country’s national renewal process.
In a message addressed to the Algerian people on the occasion of National Immigration Day, commemorating the 63rd anniversary of the October 17, 1961 demonstrations, the President expressed solemn respect for the memory of the victims of that tragic day. “I bow in reverence to the souls of the victims of that ill-fated day and extend my greetings to the sons and daughters of Algeria abroad,” Tebboune stated.
The President emphasized the continuous efforts of the state to care for expatriates and ensure their active involvement in the nation’s path toward reform and renewal. “Our commitment is unwavering in providing the best conditions for their integration into Algeria’s transformative journey, which looks confidently toward the future,” he added. He highlighted the importance of mobilizing the potential of the country’s youth and citizens to meet current challenges and realize the dreams of Algeria’s martyrs, building a proud nation rooted in justice, national dignity, and solidarity.
Tebboune also reiterated Algeria’s dedication to preserving the nation’s memory, criticizing attempts by certain extremist factions to distort or suppress the historical narrative. “The memory issue needs a renewed spirit of courage and transparency, moving beyond the colonial past without heeding those clinging to hatred and the defunct colonial mindset,” the President stressed.
Reflecting on the significance of the anniversary, Tebboune noted that the 63rd commemoration of National Immigration Day serves as a tribute to the struggles of Algerians in the diaspora, particularly in France during the liberation movement. “This day remains deeply embedded in our collective memory as a powerful symbol of national unity and the determination to achieve the goals set forth by the timeless Declaration of November 1, 1954,” he said.
