Beirut – Lebanon’s Ministry of Health announced on Saturday, October 19, 2024, that the death toll from the ongoing Israeli aggression, which began in October 2023, has now reached 2,448 martyrs, with 11,471 people injured.
According to the ministry’s statement, 36 people were killed and 204 others wounded in the past 48 hours alone due to intensified Israeli airstrikes. The detailed breakdown of the casualties is as follows:
- South Lebanon: 11 martyrs and 95 injured
- Nabatieh: 23 martyrs and 93 injured
- Bekaa: 1 martyr and 9 injured
- Baalbek-Hermel: 1 martyr and 12 injured
Since October 2023, Lebanon has been under relentless Israeli assault. However, the situation escalated further on September 23, 2024, when Israel expanded its campaign of genocide in Gaza to target various regions across Lebanon, including the capital, Beirut. The unprecedentedly intense airstrikes have killed and wounded thousands of civilians and forced over one million Lebanese to flee their homes.
The Israeli military has also launched a ground incursion into southern Lebanon, ignoring international warnings and violating UN resolutions, further aggravating the humanitarian crisis.
